The years-long project to improve drainage on West Fiesta Lane has concluded, and the project has been removed from the Drainage Capital Improvement Program list. Residents first began citing drainage issues in 2010 following major rain events, such as backups in roadside ditches, water overtopping driveways and flooded roadways.
In 2022, a comprehensive drainage study was initiated to identify flood mitigation improvements. Based on this analysis, the City determined it would need to replace and upsize culverts and regrade ditches within the Fiesta Lane right-of-way to increase conveyance capacity. Construction in the summer of 2024 included implementing the drainage study's recommendations. This meant the ditches were widened and deepened to create a ditch backslope. All driveway culverts were also replaced or upsized.
While extreme rain events can still cause flooding, the improvements are intended to reduce the frequency of these occurrences.
