Fireworks Permit - Pyrotechnic Professionals

Applications for permits shall be filed in writing with the City Clerk. The Fireworks permit fee is $100.00. The permit approval process can take over a week (or more depending on the season) - please apply in timely manner.  

Please verify eligibility and detailed restrictions/requirements within the City Ordinance: Chapter 30, Secs. 30-91 - 30-97.  

Restrictions on Granting Fireworks Permits:

  • No permit shall be granted for the display of fireworks within 150 feet of any gasoline pump, gasoline filling station or gasoline bulk station or any building in which gasoline or volatile liquid is sold in quantities in excess of one gallon.
  • No more than five permits shall be issued to a single permittee in any calendar year.
  • No more than five permits shall be issued for displays at any single premises or location in any calendar year.
  • No permit shall be issued for any fireworks display that lasts longer than 10:30 p.m., except that fireworks displays on New Year's Eve may be permitted after 10:30 p.m. but not later than 1:00 a.m.
  • No permit shall be issued for any fireworks display scheduled Sunday through Thursday nights except that a permit may be issued for New Year's Eve, July 4th , and on the Sunday of Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends notwithstanding this paragraph. For any display that will occur on a Sunday night, the alderman for the district in which the display will occur shall be notified upon issuance of the permit.

Fireworks Permit Application Must Include: 

  • Full Schedule/Description of All Events (Attach Brochure or Flyer if available)
  • Description of Security Protection (Include Police, Fire, Ambulance On-Call and Where)
  • Description of Emergency Evacuation Procedures (Medical Emergency, Fire, Weather, etc.)
  • Insurance Certificate. Pyrotechnic Insurance Certificate required with at least $1,000,000 of General Aggregate,  $1,000,000 Products-Completed Operations, and $1,000,000 Personal/Advertising Injury liability coverage, and with the municipality named as an additional insured. Contractor is responsible for the cleanup of unfired shells after the event has ended. Areas with any unexploded shells must be secured until the unexploded shells have been found and properly discarded.
  • Description of training (By Fire Department or Volunteer If Not Licensed) including Certified Training dates and places, Copy of Certification/Training Card
