The Opportunity
Are you an experienced Mechanic looking for a new opportunity?  The City of Mequon is looking to fill the position of Full-Time Mechanic within the Public Works Department’s Fleet Division. Come work in an environment where every day is different and that allows alternate work hours during the summer.

What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for the efficient and safe repair/overhaul of automobiles, trucks, fire equipment, police vehicles, and a variety of construction and maintenance equipment; related work as required.
  • Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fleet Superintendent, and assignments and instructions are received orally or in the form of written orders outlining problems with respect to the operating conditions of equipment.
  • Work is usually inspected while in progress and upon completion or by testing the operating condition of the equipment after the work is completed.
  • May be assigned to a specific specialty repair discipline and take lead authority in that specialty.

What We’re Looking For

  • Considerable experience in the servicing and repairing of automotive equipment.
  • Previous experience as a mechanic and completion of a standard high school course, supplemented by special training in automotive repair or related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Vast knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment of the automotive and truck mechanic trade.
  • Good knowledge of the principles of operation of gasoline and diesel driven equipment and of mechanical repair methods applicable to heavy trucks and construction equipment.
  • Knowledge & training in modern diesel engines, emissions systems, and computer systems.
  • Skilled in:
    • The care and use of hand machine tools employed in automotive repair work.
    • Operating painting and welding equipment.
    • Locating and repairing defects in automotive equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude; thoroughness; dependability.
  • Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 1 year of hire.

Benefits Available To You
Current salary range is: $61,998 - $83,698. Starting salary: $61,998 - $66,647+/-, DOQ. The City offers a competitive benefits package that includes:

Work Hours
This is a full-time role with regular hours from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday from mid-October through mid-May. Alternate work hours from mid-May through mid-October are 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Fridays.  Enjoy a balanced schedule with dedicated breaks and a work/life balance!
